Ride Description
- Scenic route mostly on quiet country roads.
- Route is 60 miles with slightly more than 3,500 ft of elevation change. Planned route will head out from Roger Hanks Park in Dripping and head to Wimberley via Pump Station, crossing 2325 to Valley View and Days End. Route has some low water crossings and is subject to change the day of ride.
- It is essential that you take a minimum of two water bottles or Camelbac. One store stop at mile 40 at the Shamrock station on FM-12 in Wimberley.
- This ride is relatively remote route so major mechanicals will be a serious pain. Please make sure your bike is in good mechanical condition and that you have spare tubes, tools etc.
- The Loop road is public but the shoulders/verges are not. It is essential that you honor the rights of the private landholders. Also, be very careful of motorized tourist traffic.
- Optional lunch will be afterward.
- Most of my rides are for self-confident riders who are comfortable and safe in a group riding situation which could (depending on the route) include pace-line riding, hilly terrain and exposure to urban traffic. Helmets are required.
- Route is posted in RWGPS format and cue sheets are printable from that site.
- Ride will be “no drop”, assuming riders have properly matched themselves to the ride description, average speed and terrain.
- Please arrive early enough to prepare yourself + bike, have the 5-minute safety briefing to be ready for an on-time departure. Drive time from Austin is approximately 1 hour. We will plan to meet at Roger Hanks Park. There are no public facilities at this location.
- In case of inclement weather, check this web site early on the morning of the ride.
