We ride as three groups. Group "A" hammers a 24-26 plus pace on the straight-aways. Group "B" rides a more social pace of 18-22 mph. Group "C" is our "no-drop" group and rides at a ... morebeginner friendly 16-20 mph. The route is ~22 miles and will finish after dark. Bring lights and proper cycling attire. Disclaimer: Planetary cycles claims no responsibility for anything that occurs during the ride..

Rides require, at minimum, an appropriate bike in good working order, water, and a helmet. We suggest a spare tube, energy food, maybe a little cash in case we stop, and your biggest smile! Many rides are held subject to weather. It's a good idea to confirm dates, time and any specific requirements, too. We'll see you out there — and have fun!

New-Fall Start Time is 9:00 AM! A D-pace ride (roughly 11 to 14 mph) on The Southern Walnut Creek Trail from the trailhead at Govalle Park up to the Abrupt End at Lindell Lane just ... morenorth of Decker Lake. Round trip is about 20 miles.

The trail is paved for the entire distance, with a 1/2 mile hill on the outbound. We'll regroup periodically on the outbound and at the Abrupt End. The return is mostly downhill.

The trail is two-way and narrows down in spots. Single-file riding is recommended.
There are two significant road intersections that require caution to cross.

A map of the park's location is at http://austinparks.org/parks/govalle-park/

Bring water, a snack, a spare bicycle tire tube, and tools to fix a flat. Riders will sign a liability waiver at the ride start and must wear a helmet.

There are no restrooms on the trail itself. There are restrooms at Govalle Park and at the Austin Tennis Center, about 1/3 mile off the trail.

(Optional) Meet after the ride for coffee / brunch at Sa-Ten cafe, 916 Springdale Rd. It is within easy cycling distance of Govalle Park.

We'll keep trying until we can DO this ride! We'll be detouring by the "Donkey Farm" to see & feed the donkeys! This is the very nice scenic rural ride from northeast Travis County ... moreinto southeast Williamson County and then through northwest Bastrop County. We'll do a moderate "B" pace (14-16 MPH) and re-group at all major turns. We'll travel into northwest Bastrop County on some shady country roads and ride by the 8 Point Ranch, home to many exotic animals (Zebra, Antelope, Deer, Buffalo, Elk, etc.).
There is a store stop at 34 miles in Elgin.

Note I: I do not have maps, but Q-sheets will be provided and the RidewithGPS route map is attached for electronic downloading.

Note II: Helmets are required on all Bike Austin rides.

If you are not familiar with our ride catagories; please see the following 2 sights to insure you are matched for this ride:

http://www.austincycling.org/self_paced_and_hosted

http://www.austincycling.org/hosted_ride_descriptors

Please come, with you and your equipment ready to do 50 miles, in time for a 7:45 AM riders meeting so we can roll promptly at 8:00 AM.

We'll start and end at the "Good Luck Grill". It is located at 14605 North FM 973; that is 1.8 miles north of US 290. Go east out of Manor on US 290. Turn left (north) on FM 973 for approx. 1.8 miles, the Good Luck Grill is on the right (east). Please use the parking lot area closest to the road---away from the restaurant. All are invited for conversation and lunch afterwards at the "Grill"---they have a very nice veranda (that's "back porch" in plain talk).

Please check this posting ride day morning for any possible weather cancellation.

Critical Mass Houston is a casual bike ride starting from downtown Houston and going wherever. Cars rule the road every day, but one day a month we get together to celebrate our love ... morefor bicycles and have fun riding our bikes. This is generally a slow-paced ride where persons of all skill levels can participate. People start gathering around 6:30 and we roll out around 7:15pm. We’re usually at our final location between 9:30 – 10pm, and each time we try to finish some place fun and hang out for a while.

Meet up on the last Friday of the month between 6:45pm – 7:15pm at the Historical Market Square Park at 301 Milam in downtown. It happens every month, rain or shine. We’re pretty easy to spot, just look for hundreds of bicycles.

RIDE ETIQUETTE
If you’ve never participated in Critical Mass before, please go over the simple instructions listed below:

1 This ride belongs to all of us. Take care of it.

2 Keep the pace/speed being set by the ride leaders at the front of the group. This is not a race.

3 Stay in the right lane whenever possible.

4 Please DO NOT show aggression to vehicles. Drivers may sometimes show their frustration by honking or yelling at the mass. Please ignore them and keep the peace.

5 Drinking is not recommended during the ride. Please save drinking for after. Riding while intoxicated is not safe for you or other riders around you. Also please don’t litter.

6 Please do not ride recklessly. Have fun during the ride but please don’t ride in a way that is unsafe for other riders around you.

7 Have fun and know that each rider represents the entire mass. Help us work to keep a good reputation with the city and drivers that share the road with us.

Location: Park next to the CVS Pharmacy at Saratoga and Everhart

Details: This is the biggest ride for the week. Most riders will break in to A, B, C and D groups and go varying distances and routes. IQUACK group will go to the Naval Air Station Gate. This is about 25 miles at a slow pace (12-14 MPH). The A and B riders will usually do the longer rides of 65 miles in the summer and longer rides in the winter. The A&B group rides are drop rides, meaning to please ride according to your ability. The 65 mile loop has an early 40 mile loop for riders who would like to go a little faster, but just not as long. The longer 65 miles group will go to the river and have some varying sprints, but will regroup. The pace for the 65 mile group will be between 18-20 MPH depending on wind conditions. The 65 mile group and 40 mile group will start together heading out of town to 1604. There is a split for the 40 mile group at HWY 44 off 1604. This will be a re-group point for the 40 mile group at HWY 44 and 1604 near Robstown. The 40 mile group is a no drop ride back to Corpus and CVS on HWY 44 to HWY 37 side roads to Holly Road. This is a bit of a crazy climbing ride. Not Mark Lowe crazy but very challenging nonetheless! We'll meet at the lot across from the Boulder Justice Center at 7:00. We start by climbing ... morethe first 4 miles of Boulder Canyon ( the reason for the early start time--get that out of the way before traffic really gets going) and then head up Magnolia, which is the steepest climb in Boulder County.

At the end of that 4 mile climb the road does turn to dirt for about 7 miles. The dirt section is not very challenging climbing-wise and is rideable on a road bike, but of course wider tires (e.g. 28) are preferred over narrower ones (e.g. 23mm).

We'll then hit the Peak-to-Peak highway and turn to head up to Eldora. We'll drop into Nederland to refuel and then head up to Ward and Brainard Lake. We'll return via Lefthand and Lee Hill.

The route is 68 miles with 8300 feet of climbing. Very challenging with lots of spectacular scenery!
